Welcome to #WatchingTheVote Data Centre, Ekiti Day We received Two INEC National Commissioners

YIAGA AFRICA is excited to receive National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Charge of South-West Nigeria, Prince Adedeji Solomon Soyebi at #WatchingTheVote (WTV) Data Centre in Ado-Ekiti. The National Commissioner in charge who oversees the Ekiti Governorship Elections visited the data centre to see for himself preparation of WTV team. The National commissioner also professed his faith in what YIAGA AFRICA does especially when it comes to election observation.

YIAGA AFRICA appreciates Prince Soyebi for this kind gesture and heartwarming encouragement with few hours to the election. This is indeed a morale booster to the team and by extension all our observers to deliver a credible election observation come July 14, 2018.

The commissioner revealed his admiration for the team saying, “My first admiration for YIAGA AFRICA is the fact, it involves young people and I always cease every opportunity to encourage them in what they do”. I show my admiration publicly and not secretly as it is an open romance”.

He further encouraged YIAGA AFRICA to keep up the good work saying, “what you are doing here is not just for INEC but for the country and your future”. Prince Soyebi reiterated the strength also admonished young people to make use of their numerical strength when it comes to election as the strength of voters in Nigeria comprises mainly of the Youth.

The National Commissioner In charge of South-South, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu who also visited the Data Centre afterwards said she loves the set-up as it allows the team to see what happens on the field. Mrs Agbamuche-Mbu who was full of praises for YIAGA AFRICA said the WTV will also help perfect INEC work to ensure credible elections.

On Election Day, YIAGA Africa will employ the parallel vote tabulation (PVT) methodology – the gold standard for citizen observation. WTV will deploy 500 stationary observers to a representative statistical sample of 250 polling units and 25 mobile observers located in all 16 local government areas (LGAs) of Ekiti state. YIAGA will also deploy 16 collation centre observers to cover all Ekiti’s LGA-level collation centres.

This deployment strategy will enable YIAGA Africa to provide timely and accurate information on the conduct of accreditation, voting, and counting as well as to independently verify the official results of the Ekiti gubernatorial election as announced by INEC.
