Anambra polls: 120 INEC staff begin training

No fewer than 120 staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday commenced a two-day training on Election Management System (EMS) Implementers workshop ahead of the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.

The staff, made up of electoral field officers and their assistants, are to undergo training on seven key areas of logistics, staff management, voter registration, training, party and candidate management, among others.

Addressing the participants in Awka, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, described the EMS as one of the most important innovations recently introduced by INEC for planning, monitoring and implementation of elections.

He said the training was targeted at assisting the staff to articulate their plans and preparations towards the forthcoming governorship election.

While calling for active participation of the staff in the workshop, the commissioner said their role was critical not only for the success of the November election, but for the entire work of the commission.

He also stated that parties intending to make any replacement with respect to the deputy governorship candidates would have up to the end of October to do so.
