Why INEC, judiciary should learn from Kenya election – APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Secretary to Abia State Government, Pastor Ralph Egbu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary to learn from the recent presidential election in Kenya in order to achieve credible and transparent election in Nigeria.
Egbu, who also served as Commissioner for information in the state said in Umuahia, Abia State capital while fielding questions from newsmen that such action was at the root of peace and proper development of every society.
Egbu, also said that there was the need for the nation’s judiciary to take a cue from the East African country on how to fast-track resolution of electoral issues.
Also, he canvassed that electoral offences be made a capital offence with a view to producing credible leaders for the nation.
He said: “I am advocating not just an electoral offences tribunal like has been advocated by some people but that issues of electoral malpractice be made capital offence because what is at the issue is the quality of leaders we have been producing.
“It’s just that we mess it up beginning from the collation to the actual announcement of the results. People will steal and tell you let’s go to court and you go to court as in Nigeria, they will say the man has already won, for the purpose of stability, let him be.
“The issue in Kenya is teaching us that we should take every issue concerning our election serious, they are telling us that credible and transparent election is at the root of proper development of every society, it’s teaching us that we can take it seriously so that we can have credible people and the issues concerning electoral conduct can be looked into within the possible time.”
